Location: Folkestone

Contract: Seasonal (April – October) – Full‑time (potential to become permanent)

Shift Pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off – includes weekends and bank holidays

Hours: Summer (Early April – End September) 07:30‑20:30 with breaks (occasionally 07:00‑20:00). Winter (October – March) 07:30‑17:30 with breaks.

Salary: £13.91 per hour

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Seasonal Park Keeper within the Local Authority. This role involves ensuring the daily maintenance and upkeep of Folkestone\’s prime parks and open spaces, creating a safe and enjoyable environment for the public.

The ideal candidate will have a full clean driving licence and some experience in grounds maintenance tasks such as hedge trimming, mowing, and litter picking. You must be reliable, flexible. A standard DBS check will be carried out. Previous employment & character references must be supplied on request.

Full availability during the busy season (April to September) is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Drive company vehicles as required.
  • Engage with the public in a professional and calm manner.
  • Litter picking, waste management, and safe disposal.
  • Maintain public toilets in the Coastal Park and East Cliff.
  • Grounds maintenance – weeding, pruning, hedge cutting, strimming, and planting.
  • Coastal Park play area upkeep – raking sand.
  • Assist in the set‑up and take‑down of special events.
  • Help maintain the park\’s infrastructure, such as playgrounds, benches, and pathways.
  • Monitor the park for safety issues and report concerns.
  • Installation and removal of football nets, changing rooms upkeep, unlocking and locking sport pavilions.
  • Ensure vehicles and plant are regularly checked, maintained and used correctly and report defects to the team leader or workshop.

  • Full, clean driving licence (essential).
  • A calm and mature approach to handling difficult situations.
  • Valid standard DBS check on the update service or willingness to apply.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently for extended periods.
  • Knowledge of gardening/landscaping is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills and team spirit.
  • Physical fitness to carry out tasks related to the role.
