Overview

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Senior Design Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D structural designs using CAD software, supporting project delivery, and coordinating with internal and external teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your workload and meet deadlines set by your Line Manager.
  • Create accurate 3D models and 2D drawings for structural steel, light gauge steel, timber, balconies, and related systems.
  • Prepare and issue production information packs (CAM files, fabrication drawings, marking plans, reports).
  • Ensure all designs follow building regulations, CDM standards, and internal quality procedures.
  • Attend design meetings, communicate technical details, and represent the company professionally.
  • Support architects, engineers, and contractors with technical queries.
  • Coordinate external design elements such as stairs, lifts, and masonry supports.
  • Mentor junior technicians and share software/product knowledge.
  • Keep project records and documents up to date (DDS, RFI, Planner, QA).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and resolving design issues.

Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software, especially Revit, AutoCAD and Tekla Structures.
  • Strong knowledge of hot rolled steel, light gauge systems, joist floors, timber roofs, and structural detailing.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of load-bearing structures, connections, and building physics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to manage time effectively and adapt to workload changes.
  • Confident in representing the company in meetings.

Qualifications

  • HNC, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Construction, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in structural design, detailing, or technical support roles in construction or manufacturing.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of ISO standards (e.g., 9001, 14001, 18001).
  • Familiar with document systems such as DDS, DIS, PEH.
  • Commitment to working safely and professionally.
