The Role
As a Customs Clearance Operator, you will play a key role in supporting daily transport movements through accurate, compliant customs processing. Working closely with road freight teams and external partners, you'll ensure shipments move without delay through Dover and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Process import and export customs declarations accurately and in line with HMRC regulations
- Calculate duties, VAT, and taxes with precision using the CDS/CHIEF systems
- Prepare, check, and issue customs documentation including CMRs, T1s, ENS and related transport paperwork
- Liaise confidently with customers, hauliers, freight forwarders, ports, and customs authorities
- Manage Road Freight (RoRo) clearances as a priority, with occasional support for Air and Sea Freight movements
- Support transport teams with customs and border‑related queries, including GVMS references and port procedures
- Monitor regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with Incoterms, UK/EU customs rules, and border requirements
- Provide occasional out‑of‑hours support to align with transport schedules when needed
