A UK-based engineering business delivering bespoke fabricated solutions for industrial environments is looking to recruit a CAD Design Draughtsperson.
Role Summary:
You will produce accurate CAD designs and manufacturing documentation for sheet metal and fabricated products, primarily acoustic enclosures and associated steelwork. Using SolidWorks, you will create 3D models, 2D production drawings and BOMs, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture (with occasional installation/site support).
Key Responsibilities:
- Create SolidWorks 3D models, assemblies and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
- Produce BOMs, cut lists and fabrication packs (including dimensions, tolerances and notes)
- Design sheet metal components and fabricated steelwork to suit manufacturing methods
- Apply DFM principles and liaise with fabrication/production teams to resolve build issues
- Support acoustic enclosure design (panels, doors, access, interfaces, mounting details)
- Maintain drawing revisions and ensure document control is followed
- Ensure designs meet quality standards and health & safety requirements
- Provide occasional assistance with installation drawings or site queries
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks (3D modelling/assemblies and 2D drawings)
- Proven experience producing production-ready drawings for fabrication/manufacture
- Background in sheet metal and/or fabricated steelwork design and manufacturing methods
- Mechanical engineering qualification OR equivalent hands-on industry experience
- High attention to detail, accuracy and strong communication with workshop teams
Desirable:
- Experience of acoustic enclosures / noise-control products
- Awareness of airflow/thermal/ventilation considerations in enclosure design
- Experience producing structured BOMs and working with drawing revision control
