Materials Supervisor
to join a well-established manufacturing business in Gloucester. This is a hands-on supervisory role with responsibility for ensuring materials, stock and consumables are available when required to support production. You will oversee the day-to-day activities of the materials function while working closely with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Customer Service, Quality and Finance. The role would suit someone with experience in
materials control, inventory, purchasing, warehouse operations or manufacturing supply chain
who is confident leading a small team and taking ownership of stock accuracy and material availability. Key Responsibilities Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Materials team Allocate workloads and establish daily priorities Monitor stock levels and ensure materials are available to meet production requirements Maintain accurate inventory records and stock locations Manage goods receipt, storage, stock movements and material issues Place and expedite approved purchase orders for materials and consumables Monitor outstanding purchase orders and follow up with suppliers Work closely with Production and Planning to identify upcoming material requirements Investigate stock discrepancies and material usage variances Support regular stock counts and cycle-counting activity Monitor supplier delivery performance and escalate shortages or supply risks Maintain accurate ERP/system records relating to stock, purchasing and material movements Help develop efficient replenishment processes including minimum stock levels, FIFO and Kanban systems Support safe material handling, housekeeping and warehouse standards Provide clear updates on stock availability, shortages and outstanding orders Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste and improve material control About You We are looking for someone with previous experience within a
materials, warehouse, purchasing, inventory or manufacturing environment . You should ideally have: Experience of inventory or stock control Experience raising or managing purchase orders Understanding of material replenishment within a manufacturing environment Strong organisational and planning skills Good numerical ability and attention to detail Confidence using Excel Experience using ERP or MRP systems Strong communication skills The confidence to lead, organise and motivate a small team A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems Experience with
Kanban, lean manufacturing, cycle counting, production planning or continuous improvement
