We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Site Maintenance Engineer to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of site facilities and production equipment. This role focuses on coordinating and managing external contractors for planned maintenance, inspections, and statutory compliance, while also supporting day-to-day reactive and preventative maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical and plumbing background, supported by basic electrical knowledge, and the ability to oversee contractors to ensure work is completed to a high standard and in line with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate contractors for monthly and annual inspections, servicing, and compliance activities
- Act as the main point of contact for all external maintenance contractors
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, on time, and in line with legal and site standards
- Review contractor scope, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), and issue permits to work
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and compliance documentation
- Support both reactive and preventative maintenance across site facilities and production equipment
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and plumbing issues as required
- Assist with basic electrical fault finding and ensure safe isolation procedures are followed
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime
- Monitor contractor performance and support management of service contracts
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations and site policies
- Oversee PPE availability and maintenance for staff and visitors
- Maintain overall site condition, cleanliness, and waste management standards
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong organisational and planning skills with good IT literacy
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a site or production environment
- Strong mechanical maintenance skills with the ability to interpret technical documentation
- Solid plumbing knowledge with hands-on experience
- Basic electrical knowledge (fault finding and isolation procedures)
- Experience managing and supervising external contractors
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations (e.g. PUWER, LOLER) and safe systems of work
Desirable:
- Engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
- Experience using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
- Knowledge of statutory compliance areas such as pressure systems, HVAC, or water hygiene
