HR with a difference

Join our dynamic and commercially focused HR consultancy team at the HR Dept Swindon, North Wiltshire and East Cotswolds, where we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional HR services.

We provide high-quality, commercial HR advice and support to a diverse range of clients, helping them navigate complex HR issues with ease.

We offer a full range of HR services with a main focus on employee relations issues (disciplinaries, grievances, redundancies and TUPE), performance management, recruitment, training, and development.

Purpose of the role

The Senior HR Advisor is the first point of contact for HR Dept clients, responsible for delivering high-quality, commercial HR advice and support.

The role requires a confident and highly organised individual who can work autonomously, manage their own caseload and priorities, and take ownership of complex HR issues from initial enquiry through to resolution.

You will navigate clients through HR processes, providing practical solutions to people-related challenges, and undertake client project work as required.

  • Main responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for the HR Advice Line service, providing accurate, timely and commercially focused HR advice and support to clients across all areas of HR, with a particular focus on employee relations matters, via telephone and email.
  • Advise and manage independently on behalf of clients’ disciplinary issues, employee grievances, performance management, redundancies and TUPE.
  • Act as a TUPE champion within the team, providing expert guidance on TUPE processes, supporting colleagues with cases, and ensuring best practice approaches are consistently applied across client work.
  • Act as the lead advisor for allocated clients, taking full ownership of the client relationship, proactively managing HR needs, anticipating risks, and ensuring the delivery of a joined up and commercially focused HR service.
  • Manage a personal caseload of client work, independently prioritise and make sound commercial decisions on HR matters, escalating only where appropriate.
  • Create and issue documentation that supports the specialist advice provided to clients.
  • Deliver project work including staff surveys, salary benchmarking and appraisal processes.
  • Chair or support formal meetings including grievances, disciplinaries and appeals.
  • Lead on-site with redundancy programmes and complex employee relations issues.
  • Support and deliver client training, including preparation of training materials.
  • Draft and update client policies, procedures and handbooks to ensure compliance with employment law and best practice.
  • Business Relations and Development
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing clients such as movement to a higher service, recruitment and additional project or site work.
  • Own the client onboarding process for designated clients, and maintain regular, structured contact in line with internal protocols to support ongoing service delivery and client engagement.
  • Supporting team development
  • Act as a role model for other HR Advisors, demonstrating best practice in client delivery, documentation and case management.
  • Provide informal coaching and guidance to junior team members on employee relations matters and HR processes.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement of team standards and resources.
