We have a wonderful opportunity for Female Support Worker(s) to join an established care team providing support to a bubbly and engaging lady who lives with her family less than 5 miles from Lincoln.
Our Client
Poppy is a fascinating young woman in her early 30’s who lives at home with her family in a small rural village, close to Lincoln. Poppy has cerebral palsy, autism and a brain injury, and can exhibit challenging behaviours. Despite speech difficulties, Poppy communicates well. She is not independently mobile and requires support in all areas of her day-to-day life including personal care.
Poppy is a bright and engaging young woman with many interests and enjoys spending time accessing her hobbies and interests with the support of her care team. It can take Poppy a little while to get to know people and it is essential that this is at Poppy’s pace; however, once she is familiar with you, you will enjoy her bubbly, fun and cheeky character.
Interests & Hobbies
Poppy uses a powered wheelchair for mobility and loves to go out and about on day trips and has enjoyed going to London a number of times recently; she is hoping to plan more days out over coming months. Poppy also loves bingo, visiting coffee shops, going out for walks and going shopping; however, she also enjoys quiet days at home, relaxing and crafting. Candidates should share a number of these interests and be happy to embrace outings and activities.
The Role
We are looking for new Support Worker(s) to join this established and professional care team who implement a client-focused care provision. Previous experience within the care sector would be beneficial but is not essential. The successful candidates will need to be open-minded and not harbour any pre-conceived ideas of how Poppy’s difficulties or behaviours may present. Training will be given in the behaviour management techniques which are in place and it is essential that candidates are willing to take on board advice and guidance to implement these techniques and to work collaboratively as part of the existing team.
Candidates should be positive and sociable, happy to take Poppy out and about in the local community and further afield to enjoy her current interests and will ideally have ideas for other activities or outings Poppy may enjoy. This role is based within the busy family home and it is important that candidates understand the need to maintain professional boundaries and respect Poppy and her family’s privacy and confidentiality.
Applicants should have excellent spoken and written communication skills and should hold a full clean UK driving licence and have their own vehicle. You should also be happy to drive the Client’s adapted vehicle if required.
Available Hours
We have a total of 48 hours per week available and anticipate that two new Support Workers will be recruited to join the team on a part-time basis. Training hours (duration unknown): Sunday through to Friday inclusive 09:00 – 17:00. Once fully trained and familiar with Poppy, shifts will be in line with the rota but will typically comprise a selection of shifts as follows: Sunday to Friday inclusive: Day Shifts from 07:00 – 17:00 or 09:00 – 19:00; Sleeping Night Shifts from 19:00 – 07:00. Candidates should offer the flexibility to adjust their usual hours when on trips and out and about with Poppy and be able to accept additional shifts to cover periods of annual leave and sickness within the team.
Rates of Pay
Monday to Friday £17.00 per hour; Saturday & Sunday £19.00 per hour.
