We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineering Manager to lead and deliver the engineering strategy for the site and lead engineering activities, ensuring efficient, on‑target production and maintenance are delivered through a team of managers and engineers. The successful candidate will lead, coach and support the team in ensuring optimum utilisation of engineering staff and equipment within capital & revenue budgets and compliance to the group standards.
The role includes:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining a strategy for an effective and efficient Engineering function.
- Producing a monthly report of performance against plan / KPIs for Engineering on site.
- Creating, implementing and managing both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the factory.
- Management of the asset register and asset disposal.
- Managing the structure, culture and behavioural values for site utilities suppliers.
- Undertaking and directing a planned maintenance programme with consideration to optimising production.
- Controlling costs, overhead and overtime expenditure in line with budgetary targets.
- Supporting the integration of the engineering function into manufacturing.
- Ensuring that standards and procedures are in place and regularly updated for all engineering activities.
- Communicating daily with Production to ensure planned maintenance and production priorities are considered.
- Leading and motivating staff as a first line manager via coaching, regular appraisal, mentoring, training and leadership‑by‑example.
- Setting and monitoring targets for Teams to ensure continued improvement in engineering skills.
- Arranging core training/competency assessments of engineering staff and developing an annual training plan.
- Ensuring systems for stores to minimise inventory levels and working capital.
- Optimising and improving the productive capability of the plant while complying with environmental legislation.
The person should be degree educated or equivalent, with deep experience leading engineering in a large food production business. Previous experience in a Site Engineering Manager role within food manufacturing is essential. Proven experience in developing others and forging solid relationships as a leader is required. Substantial lean knowledge and multi‑skilled or electrically biased experience would be advantageous. Candidates should have former experience in Budget and Financial Metrics and a breadth of experience within complex engineering operations. IT literacy and experience in delivering data analytics are necessary. Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of coaching, motivating and engaging a team are essential, along with strong leadership skills to drive continuous improvement.
