This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT Therapist to join HPFT MHST South team. The post is designed for a psychologist/CBT Therapist who is ready to consolidate specialist skills while developing into a senior clinician.

The role will operate across MHST South including bases in 3Rivers, Hertsmere and Watford. The post holder will be expected to work from all locations in line with clinical need, team arrangements and service priorities.

The MHST South Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT Therapist will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary school's Mental Health Support Team (MHST); assisting in the provision of a high quality service to children, young people and their families experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The role requires skills in assessing, planning, organising, reviewing and supervision.

The post holder should have completed or be willing to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Supervision course. This can be an EMHP supervision course, low intensity supervision course, or CYP-PT Supervision course.

The post holder will utilise their skills and knowledge of CBT informed interventions and child and adolescent mental health practice, to supervise the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), Senior Wellbeing Practitioners (SWPs), Senior Practitioners, and assistant psychologists (as appropriate) in the team.

Main duties of the job

  • To triage and provide psychological assessment and interventions for children and young people in an educational setting
  • If not already completed, the post holder will be expected to attend university to complete a Postgraduate Certification in Supervision
  • Undertake and record accurate assessments of risk and operate clear risk management processes in line with locally agreed procedures including the safeguarding protocols of the educational setting and HPFT Safeguarding policy.
  • To provide specialist expertise and psychological support to clients, their carers and staff working with the clients

To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management

To provide consultation as required to other professionals (such as teachers and family workers) around mental health issues in children and young people in schools.

To enhance emotional wellbeing and to promote or build resilience in children and young people through educational workshops, assemblies, and PSHE lessons.

Person specification

Areas of Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people across a full range of care settings, and with mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life span’s presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and inter-agency collaboration
  • Knowledge and awareness of specific clinical practices and issues relating to clients with mental health problems
  • Completed or willing to complete postgraduate supervision course
  • Experience and knowledge in the clinical practice of CBT
  • Able to supervise EMHPs, CWPs and SWPs
  • Experience of service quality monitoring e.g. clinical audit, evaluative research, etc and/or service improvement and project management

Skills

  • Ability to deliver complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Ability to work with people whose behaviour is personally challenging

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or fully completed training as a Counselling Psychologist & Full registration with Health Professions Council under the Clinical or Counselling modality OR Postgraduate qualification in one of the core mental health professions e.g. nursing, medicine, social work and occupational therapy or to have substantial other relevant experience and with demonstrable competence to work in the mental health field
  • Diploma and / or M.Sc. in CBT leading to demonstrable eligibility for accreditation with the BABCP
  • Continuing registration with body overseeing practice of core mental health profession, e.g. HCPC or BABCP
