About Hinkley Point C / MEH Alliance
The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy. Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, Hinkley Point C will make a major contribution to the UK's move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two EPR reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, or 600 million tonnes over its 60-year lifespan.
What you will be doing:
- Provide H&S leadership across a significant scope of works including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC Alliance (MEHA) works with their designated area.
- Fully support the deputy Head of HSE by leading and ensuring exemplary MEH Alliance Health and Safety standards on the HPC project are consistently met.
- Manage a specific area within the MEH Alliance area management model.
- Manage a team of HSE Advisors in allocated area.
- Responsible for the deliverables of the allocated H&S Advisor field team.
- Support construction deliverables by advising the construction teams on best practice and assisting in the maintenance of the overall MEH Alliance HSE management system.
- Analysing information and trends from reports and observations and taking corrective measures prior to events occurring.
- Engage with Construction teams throughout the planning and delivery of the scope of works ensuring lessons learnt are actioned to provide the highest H&S performance.
- Ensure effective communication site monitoring of working practices of all MEHA employees and contract partners allocated to the area.
- Manage audit assurance programmes within respective area.
- Provide competent specialist advice on identified topics, subject to the roles holder's area of expertise.
- Champion the HPC Way including its pillars in all activities undertaken and play a key role in the MEHA integrated HSESS team.
- Ensure project and employee K.P.I's are managed across the team.
- Support other area Leads as required, also providing cover for holidays and sickness.
- Attend coordination, client and internal HSE Meetings.
- Ensure all data for the area is captured within monthly dashboards including incidents, lessons learnt, leading & lagging indicators.
- Manage all investigations within their area, ensuring the Deputy Head of HSESS is kept updated in real time of all learnings.
- Responsible for setting and improving improvement programmes within the areas.
Who we are looking for:
- Chartered IOSH Member or working towards Chartership.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- Construction background with a minimum of 8 years' experience.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain HSE procedures and expectations to a range of people.
- Working knowledge of the Health and Safety Regulations.
- Experience of interactions with Regulators, presenting and hosting Site visits.
- Experience with managing teams of HSE professionally.
- Experienced auditor.
- Able to obtain a security clearance.
- Suitable site experience in a similar role, preferably in the construction or nuclear industry.
- Willing to undertake Level 3 Award in Education & Training / PTLLS or equivalent if required.
- Basic understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
- An investigative mind and a keen eye for detail.
- Ideally experience of Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Scaffolding & Coatings.
