Role Overview

We are seeking an Accountant to join our growing team, supporting entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses, family investment companies and private clients. This role focuses on delivering high-quality accounting, compliance and advisory services across a varied portfolio of clients. The successful candidate will manage relationships with business owners, assist with more complex planning projects and play an important role in supporting the continued growth of the department. Whilst the role will initially focus on accounting, corporation tax and VAT matters, there will be opportunities to develop expertise across private client taxation, wealth planning and succession matters for those looking to broaden their skillset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs, family investment companies and private clients from a UK perspective.
  • Provide support and advice across a broad range of matters including:
    • Statutory accounts preparation and review
    • Corporation tax compliance
    • VAT compliance and advisory
    • Making Tax Digital requirements
    • Management accounts and business reporting
    • Directors' remuneration planning
    • Business structuring and reorganisations
    • Family Investment Companies (FICs)
    • Business succession planning
    • Capital gains tax matters
    • Business acquisitions and disposals
    • Personal tax compliance
  • Assist with more complex advisory projects, working closely with senior colleagues on planning and structuring.
  • Support business owners in understanding the financial and tax implications of key commercial decisions.
  • Ensure work is delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with risk and quality standards.
  • Monitor relevant legislation and identify implications and opportunities for clients.

Portfolio & Relationship Management

  • Act as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships.
  • Communicate accounting and tax matters clearly and pragmatically to clients.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients' businesses, family circumstances and long-term objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with other professional advisers where required.

Team & People Development

  • Support, mentor and review the work of junior team members.
  • Assist with on-the-job training and development of less experienced team members.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture.

Business Support & Collaboration

  • Identify advisory opportunities within the client portfolio and escalate to senior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with the Wealth team to deliver joined-up client solutions.
  • Assist in the continued development of Hoxton Tax's business owner and entrepreneurial client offering.

Skills & Experience

Essential
  • ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts.
  • Practical experience of corporation tax and VAT compliance.
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Experience working with owner-managed businesses and entrepreneurial clients.
  • Experience advising Family Investment Companies (FICs).
  • Exposure to personal taxation matters.
  • Experience supporting business sales, acquisitions or restructuring projects.
  • Knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks or similar.
  • Interest in developing expertise in private client taxation and wealth planning.
  • Ambition to progress within a growing and expanding team.
