Howrecruit has been retained to manage the search for a Senior Product Engineer on behalf of a profitable, bootstrapped e-marketplace start-up in the services space. This is a rare opportunity to shape a widely-used, customer-facing platform by working in a lean, engineering-led environment that values results over screen time and impact over process.
The Role
We're looking for a Senior/Staff Product Engineer (or Engineering Leader) who still loves to build. You'll lead the development of high-impact features, working closely with design and product to define and deliver exceptional user experiences. You'll bring technical leadership, product thinking, and a desire to ship things that matter.
This is a role for someone who wants to own the full lifecycle, from early product conversations through architecture, implementation, and launch.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end product development using React, TypeScript, and GraphQL
- Rebuild and scale key user flows such as onboarding and service management
- Collaborate deeply with product managers and designers to shape product direction
- Migrate legacy frontend code to a modern hybrid stack
- Contribute to the architecture, reliability, and developer experience of the platform
- Mentor peers and influence engineering culture—whether or not you're in a formal leadership role
Who You Are
- You’ve led projects from concept to production in a tech or product-led company
- You’ve worked closely with cross-functional stakeholders (product, design, ops) to define and deliver impactful features
- You're confident in React and TypeScript, and ideally have worked with GraphQL
- You build with quality, performance, and accessibility in mind
- You might be a Senior Engineer, Staff+, EM, Director, or VP. As long as you're hands-on and love creating great products, this could be for you
- Experience with React Native is a nice-to-have, but not required
- You're thoughtful, self-directed, and thrive in fast-paced, low-process environments
- Bonus: experience with backend APIs (especially in Python) or a willingness to dive in
