An opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technician within the Alloy Plant at our Exeter site. This role operates on a 3-shift rotation, and reports to the Laboratory Supervisor. The 3-shift rotation consists of 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, and 10pm-6am. Shift premium payable.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Analysis of alloy samples by instrumental techniques using combustion, optical emission, and X-ray fluorescence techniques. Samples include preliminary melt samples, certification samples, and remelt samples from casting plants and external customers.
  • Preparation of samples for analysis.
  • Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Routine standardisation of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining 5S within the laboratory.
  • Inputting of results to LIMS.
  • Calculating bath additions during heat manufacture using LIMS and Optimat.

Qualifications:

  • A good attitude to working safely and demonstrates the values of Howmet Aerospace.
  • A science background with good mathematical and computer skills.
  • Ability to interpret results and make decisions on alloy chemistry adjustments within the scope of the role.
  • Flexibility to work within a small team to provide 24/7 laboratory cover.
  • Meticulous, with exceptional attention to detail. Able to work alone, self-sufficiently, and independently prioritise tasks.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
