Overview
As Employment Counsel – International you advise Howmet’s business leaders and HR partners on European employment matters and oversee non-US employment issues. You partner with outside counsel to handle cross-border matters, update policies, and ensure compliant employment agreements. You’ll support HR processes from recruitment to separation, while mitigating risk and driving practical solutions. This role offers global exposure and the opportunity to shape how Howmet manages people across multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- advise on European employment matters (France, Germany, UK, Hungary) to business leaders and HR teams
- manage outside counsel for non-US employment matters across Europe, Japan, China, Australia
- review and update employment policies and procedures (handbooks, bonuses, compensation, severance) in coordination with HR
- ensure offer letters, employment agreements, and separation agreements are compliant and aligned with business needs
- manage litigation matters with outside counsel in protection of the company’s interests
- propose practical solutions to legal and business risks and drive issues to resolution
- keep HR informed of significant employment legislation across Europe/Asia
- operate effectively in an international environment with colleagues from different regions and legal systems
Key requirements
- Law degree and member in good standing of the applicable bar
- 8+ years post-qualification experience from an international law firm
- in-house experience is an advantage
- excellent verbal and written English; French skills are a significant advantage
- high integrity and discretion, aligned with company values and legal practices
