How&How are seeking a full-time Digital Design Director to join our London team. You will have raw talent, curiosity and a strong creative instinct—and help us deliver work for our clients which is bold, conceptual and different. You will be a team player who will be generous with ideas and have strong beliefs—loosely held. You will be the driving force behind the digital output of the agency, setting the creative and experiential standard for our digital work, and lead and grow our Digital Design team to develop the digital vision of our projects, galvanising those around you to do their best work. While the role requires overseeing staff members and projects, you will also be expected to design websites, design systems and product UI using industry best practice. Motion will play an important role in how you think and work — helping bring ideas to life and elevate the storytelling and craft of our digital output. It’s essential you’re not afraid to get stuck in on all levels of work. Egos get left at the door.
Topline: we need a well-rounded, team-player to push our digital design projects—and people—forward. You’ll have strong problem-solving skills; knowledge of UX processes and methodologies and great interpersonal skills too. An understanding of emerging technologies — including AI and its implications for design, workflows and digital experiences — will be valuable. We’re looking for someone curious and forward-facing, who is comfortable exploring how new tools and thinking can be applied meaningfully to client work.
What you’ll do:
- Run UI/UX workshops with authority and conviction
- Participate and run brainstorming sessions and bring fresh ideas to the table
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity comps to communicate design ideas that illustrate UI and push the boundaries and expectations of digital design as a category
- Design UX / UI based on requirements from concept, to final hand-off to development
- Develop digital storyboards, motion concepts and animation boards as needed
- Work closely with account managers to translate low-fidelity wireframes, hand sketches, and/or rough requirements of an idea into well-designed user interfaces and experiences
- Present designs and design systems with confidence and clarity to clients
- Oversee our developer relationships to ensure execution and consistency of the experience
- Lead, mentor and galvanise other UX / UI designers in your team to provide input and help solve complex interaction problems
- Identify, interview and engage freelance digital designers and developers
- Represent the digital department in agency in client pitches, talks and networking events
- Lead the development and implementation of AI and new technologies in the digital production process
Your skills:
- 8+ years hands-on experience as a UI / UX Designer
- 100% credible in our core discipline of digital design
- Strong motion design skills, with the ability (at the very least) to use motion to enhance narrative, usability and expression
- Notable experience designing complex user interfaces for web and/or mobile applications
- Thorough understanding of design systems, user-centred design, responsive design, mobile first design, and web standards
- Deep understanding of industry standard design tools (in particular Figma, After Effects)
- Strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of UX processes and methodologies
- Able to interpret analytics data to make informed design decisions
- Efficient, detail-oriented, organised, and able to work under tight deadlines
- Strong multi-tasking skills; able to prioritise own work (and ask questions when it’s ambiguous)
- Strong creative instincts and willingness to push further through experimentation
- Advanced understanding of how to apply the methodologies of interaction design and research to business problems
- Proven experience in growing, leading and galvanising teams
- Additional skills are a big plus: code, illustration, etc
- Curious about brands and the positive impact they can have on the world
- Interested in more than just design
- Forward-thinking and comfortable engaging with new technologies, including AI
- Ambitious self-starter who can thrive in ambiguity
- Comfortable engaging with the strategic dimension of our work
- Able to get under the skin of clients’ issues, strong on content as well as visuals
- Able to build personal relationships and trust with clients
- Articulate, confident and assertive in presenting work
Our responsibilities:
- Salary £73,500 - £79,000 (DOE)—with Bonus Opportunities
- We operate a profit share scheme with everyone in the agency, because we believe everyone should share in the success of the entire team
- We publish all our salary tiers internally and the same job roles are paid exactly the same. Because we think that’s fair
- We contribute up to 3% of qualifying earnings to anyone who wants to engage in our pension scheme
- 39 Day Holiday allocation—28 days holiday + 8 bank holidays + Christmas shutdown
- We work from our bright and airy Shoreditch studio, with 2 days WFH per week
- Early finish Fridays
- Impact Days—as part of our B-Corp initiative, we give you an extra 2 days a year to make an impact and volunteer in a way that means something to you
- 2-week work-from-anywhere opportunities (time zone dependent)
- Sabbatical policy of up to 3 months after you’ve been with us for 3 years
- Monthly 1-2-1s, 3-month check-ins and 6-month reviews with your line manager to give honest feedback, celebrate wins, and make sure your efforts are recognised.
- Good work leads to good things, so if you’re doing a great job, you’ll see that reflected in your salary and opportunities to grow
- £1,000/year skills & training allowance
- Cross-skill training, giving you the ability to improve on overall performance
- We operate a Cycle to Work scheme, so you can spread the cost of a new bike, tax-free, through salary sacrifice
- We offer free breakfast, snacks and drinks in our beautiful kitchen
- We host regular studio learning lunches, head out to talks together, and every other Thursday we wrap up early to hold courses (accompanied by pizza & drinks) in the studio
- We also cover tickets to events like It’s Nice That’s ‘Nicer Tuesdays’, or industry talks and design conferences
- Twice a year, we get our whole global team together in one place for epic Summer and Winter parties
- Visa Sponsorship—we can help sponsor your Visa in the UK!
- We’re B-Corp Certified, which means our agency meets the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability
- Zero ego: we believe the best work happens in collaboration. So we purposely only hire open-minded, brilliant team players
- Maternity and Paternity packages
- Maternity: 90% of your average weekly earnings (before tax) for the first 6 weeks, 80% for the next 20 weeks (a total of 6 months), Statutory after that up to 33 weeks
