A fast-growing civil engineering and infrastructure group is seeking an experienced Commercial Director to join its executive leadership team. This newly created director-level role offers the opportunity to shape commercial strategy across multiple businesses delivering groundworks, drainage, utilities and infrastructure projects throughout the UK. You'll work closely with senior leadership to drive profitability, manage commercial risk and support continued growth.

The Role

Reporting to the Board, you'll lead the Group's commercial function, providing strategic oversight of contracts, commercial performance, procurement and risk management while developing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the Group's commercial strategy.
  • Lead contract negotiations and oversee projects from tender to final account.
  • Drive commercial performance, forecasting, margin improvement and WIP control.
  • Manage commercial and contractual risk across the business.
  • Oversee procurement and build strong supply chain relationships.
  • Lead and develop commercial teams while improving systems and processes.

About You

You'll have significant senior commercial experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction, with a proven track record of delivering profitable projects and leading commercial teams.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management.
  • Experience managing projects from tender to final account.
  • Commercial, financial and contractual expertise.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar (RICS/CIOB desirable).
