Howdens is looking for a Transport Planner to join our dedicated transport planning team at our manufacturing and distribution site in Howden, East Yorkshire. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring efficient deliveries from our distribution centres to depots across both domestic and international routes.

What Will You Be Doing as a Transport Planner:

  • Build and schedule Primary (domestic and international) and XDC (next-day) deliveries, ensuring timely and cost-effective transport solutions.
  • Work closely with warehouses, transport execution teams, and external partners to manage all aspects of the delivery process.
  • Coordinate additional internal and external customer movements, including pallet transfers, supplier collections, and backhaul operations.
  • Promote and adhere to safety regulations and company policies within all planning activities.
  • Analyse transport data to identify areas for improvement and drive informed decision-making.
  • Proactively address any scheduling issues or service challenges, ensuring excellent service levels.

What Do You Need to Qualify for the Transport Planner Role:

  • Previous experience in a transport planning or logistics environment is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Transport Management Systems (e.g., SAP TM, TMS, Microlise, IDS, or WMS) and a good understanding of UK geography.
  • A-Levels or equivalent qualifications. A Transport CPC certification would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Competency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of transport legislation, including drivers’ hours regulations, would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and adjust to changing circumstances, particularly during peak periods.
