Howden Joinery is recruiting an Engineering Maintenance Shift Manager for our Engineering team at our site in Runcorn, Cheshire. With major investment underway to expand and upgrade our cabinet and panel manufacturing operations, it’s a great time to come on board and be part of our exciting growth journey.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling maintenance and engineering activities throughout manufacturing to ensure asset performance, reliability and quality are guaranteed and improved. As a confident leader, you will lead a team of engineering colleagues and indirectly the maintenance activities of operators in the delivery of world-class asset care with the highest standards of safety.
Shift Pattern: 40 hours per week (2 days and 2 nights (4 on / 4 off))
What will you be doing as an Engineering Maintenance Shift Manager:
- Supports and leads the implementation of world-class maintenance practices.
- Leads root cause analysis and reliability/quality improvement activities.
- Drives practical problem-solving to minimise downtime.
- Coordinates complex fault-finding and escalates support when needed.
- Develops PM work orders, schedules and calibration standards in the CMMS.
- Improves maintenance and asset KPIs as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
- Leads critical spares analysis, manages spares and improves component life cycles.
- Undertakes design-out activities to remove recurring issues.
- Plans, allocates and oversees maintenance work to ensure high standards.
- Signs off maintenance interventions on critical assets and ensures man-hours are recorded.
- Conducts 1:2:1s to identify training needs and support behavioural development.
- Coordinates and completes equipment risk assessments and SOPs.
- Promotes and leads dynamic risk assessments within the team.
- Deputises for the Maintenance Manager out of hours for safe delivery of planned/unplanned work.
- Identifies and implements safe working practices and risk-reduction measures.
- Ensures statutory maintenance tasks are completed on time with CMMS feedback.
- Manages and coordinates contractor activities through the permit-to-work system.
What do we need to qualify for the Engineering Maintenance Shift Manager:
- Formal Health and Safety qualification CIEH Level 3 Health & Safety.
- NEBOSH general Certificate (preferred).
- HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Continuous Improvement experience.
- Supervisory experience.
