This role sits within Howden's Consumer & Local Commercial (C&LC) insurance division: the part of the business focused on finding the right insurance solutions for individual clients, families and local businesses through our nationwide branch network. Marketing plays a critical role in how Consumer & Local Commercial grows: helping branches stand out locally, supporting advisers with engaging content, and making sure our brand shows up consistently and confidently across channels.
This is a genuinely varied marketing role where you'll be able to support our branches with their own local activity, as well as delivering centralised marketing campaigns and projects across all branches. You'll work across a range of media, producing exceptional content for brochures, leaflets, on and offline adverts, social media and client communications. Content that tells a story about how we offer a positively personal insurance service to our clients. You'll also act as the bridge between branches and our Centres of Excellence, making sure great local stories become scalable PR and engaging content for our monthly client newsletters.
If you want a role where you can plan, shape and deliver campaigns and content, influence stakeholders and prove that marketing and insurance can be anything but dull, this is it.
The role at a glance:
- Broad generalist marketing role supporting campaigns and projects end-to-end
- Mix of central and local marketing activity across multiple channels
- Strong collaboration with branches, central teams and Centres of Excellence
- Opportunity to apply social media skills within a wider marketing remit
- Hands-on, fast-paced and highly collaborative
What you'll be doing:
- Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of national and local marketing campaigns across C&LC.
- Translate campaign briefs into clear, practical assets and guidance that branches can easily activate.
- Support end-to-end campaign delivery, from briefing and asset creation through to launch and post-campaign evaluation.
- Help manage multiple projects simultaneously, keeping delivery on track and stakeholders aligned.
- Act as the conduit between branches and the Communications Centre of Excellence, gathering local stories, insight and assets, and shaping clear briefs for newsletters, blogs and PR, ensuring social insight and local context are reflected.
Social media & influencer strategy
- Own and manage the C&LC social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and emerging channels, proactively planning, creating and publishing engaging content that builds brand awareness, drives engagement and supports commercial goals.
- Act as the go-to social media partner for our branch network, coaching and supporting branches to improve the quality and consistency of their local activity.
- Monitor social trends, cultural moments and competitor activity, turning insight into timely, relevant content.
- Track performance, analyse results and share insight to improve future activity.
- Build strong relationships across the branch network, central teams and Centres of Excellence.
- Confidently influence, challenge and push back when needed, offering clear rationale and solutions.
- Balance central brand priorities with local flexibility and needs.
What we're looking for:
- Proven experience in a generalist marketing role, ideally in a B2C, retail or financial services environment.
- Practical experience supporting marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
- Solid social media experience, with confidence creating and managing content (hands-on execution required).
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing competing priorities.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, changeable environment.
- You must be based and have the right to work in the UK.
- You must hold a full driving licence as regular travel to our branches is required as part of the role.
Skills that really matter:
- Exceptional copywriting – clear, punchy and human.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
- Excellent organisation, planning and project management.
- Creative thinker with the confidence to bring ideas and challenge thinking.
- Commercial awareness and curiosity about what drives engagement and results.
- Confident using insight and data to inform decisions.
- Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership.
Qualifications:
- Degree, CIM qualification or equivalent experience related to the role, such as marketing, communications or English.
Why you'll enjoy this role:
- You’ll work on varied marketing activity, not just one channel.
- You’ll gain exposure to national campaigns and local execution.
- You’ll build strong relationships across branches and central teams.
- You’ll develop as a well-rounded marketing executive within a supportive, collaborative team.
