About the role

As a New Business Executive at Howden, you will proactively engage with mid‑market and SME businesses across the UK, with a particular focus on clients within the construction and property professional services sector. This includes organisations such as surveyors, architects, design and planning consultancies, and engineering firms across all disciplines. You will help clients understand how Howden can support their insurance needs, gaining valuable experience in identifying risk exposures, discussing tailored insurance solutions, and promoting Howden’s end‑to‑end service—from initial consultation through to long‑term partnership.

Your role will be central to expanding our client base and supporting our mission to deliver exceptional, specialist-led insurance solutions. Whether you are advising a local professional practice or supporting the placement of more complex programmes for growing and internationally active firms, your contribution will play a key role in driving Howden’s continued, industry‑leading growth.

What you'll do

  • Proactively contact prospective clients to introduce Howden, gather relevant insurance information, and support negotiations with both clients and insurers.
  • Identify, research, and develop new sources of prospective clients to help expand Howden’s presence and market reach.
  • Work closely with brokers and account handlers to support the onboarding and development of potential new clients.
  • Accurately maintain client and prospect records on our CRM systems, ensuring all information is recorded promptly and kept up to date in line with company standards.
  • Build a strong foundation of Professional Indemnity Insurance knowledge, including working towards and achieving CII insurance qualifications.
  • Actively participate in structured training and development programmes focused on building the core skills required for success in the role.
  • Contribute as part of a fast‑paced, collaborative, and continually evolving environment, with significant opportunities for learning and professional growth.

Who we're looking for

  • 1-3 years of insurance broking/business development experience.
  • Ideally experience with Professional Indemnity in the Construction/Engineers space.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Our team thrives on effective communication and the ability to work together towards common goals.
  • Sales and negotiation skills that will help you compete in a fast-paced market.
  • Strong motivation and ambition in progressing into a career in insurance.
  • An eye for detail to ensure that all records and client interactions are meticulously managed and maintained.
  • A positive and proactive attitude, ready to take on challenges and determine the best paths to success.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and development, with the ambition to grow within the company.
