What is the role?

As a reinsurance broking summer intern, you will be exposed to the world of reinsurance broking and its role in protecting businesses and communities worldwide.

You will rotate across at least two of the following teams:

  • International Facultative
  • provide reinsurance cover for highly unusual, large or complex individual risks.

  • International Growth Markets

  • deliver innovative, data-driven reinsurance solutions across emerging markets, combining global expertise with local insight to support strategic client growth and market expansion.

  • International Operations

  • support Howden Re\'s global business by ensuring everything runs smoothly across different countries, supporting systems, processes and people so the team can deliver great results for our clients.

  • International Treaty

  • designs and places reinsurance agreements known as treaties across global markets. These agreements cover categories of risks rather than individual cases.

  • Global Specialty Treaty

  • provide bespoke reinsurance solutions for complex and niche risks utilising their deep product expertise and global market access.

  • Cyber

  • provide expert guidance and reinsurance solutions to help insurers manage systemic cyber risks.

  • Analytics

  • develop and apply advanced data model, actuarial tools and catastrophe analytics to deliver strategic insights and optimise reinsurance solutions.

  • RFP (Request for Proposals)

  • responsible for managing competitive reinsurance proposal submissions in response to market and client opportunities.

  • Bowood

  • one of the largest delegated binding authority brokers in Lloyd\'s. They provide strategic advice to Managing General Agents (MGAs) to help them expand into new markets and connect them with insurers needed to underwrite risks.

Our Summer Internship Programme offers a direct pathway into our Graduate Roles. Based on your performance and business needs, you may receive a full-time graduate offer to start in Autumn 2027, known as a deferred offer.

What you\'ll do

  • Work alongside industry experts in various areas of reinsurance and gain insight into the end-to-end broking lifecycle.

  • Gain exposure to various areas of reinsurance including broking, analytics, underwriting and claims.

  • Working on meaningful projects in a fast-pace and collaborative environment.

What are we looking for?

  • Penultimate year students from any degree background.

  • A keen curiosity to learn more about reinsurance.

  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to drive results through problem solving and self-motivation.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.

  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities, manging multiple tasks and delivering high quality work.

  • Candidates must have full and unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
