The Role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and global environment, collaborating with various brokers and team members. The Accident & Health team has been growing year on year and we are seeing exciting opportunities internationally, through the rapidly expanding Howden network and external partners.

You will play a crucial part in assisting our account management and broking team with duties, including administrative support, client relationship management, managing client and underwriter queries, preparing policy documentation, coordinating with internal teams and insurers, processing renewals and mid-term adjustments as well as the management of bordereaux submissions and processing for binders binding authorities (facilities). This will provide the framework to learn and understand the business within a dynamic and growing team and will provide solid foundations for the start of development and growth within your insurance career.

What you’ll do

  • Manage a book of policy renewals, engaging with clients predominantly on a wholesale basis to gather renewal information in good time to enable terms to be obtained and firm orders placed.
  • Preparation of policy documentation and slips in accordance with client and market needs, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Utilise market systems and resources such as the Lloyd’s Wording Repository, Crystal+ and PPL when preparing policy documentation and subsequently binding contracts of (re)insurance.
  • Stay up to date with territory, tax, and legislation requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the onboarding of new clients on Howden internal systems and complete the necessary due diligence requirements, whilst following internal guidelines.
  • Respond to underwriter, client and third-party queries as appropriate to maintain strong relationships and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Support the development of client presentations for both new and existing clients.
  • Check Evidence of Cover and debit/credit notes for accuracy, ensuring all documentation is of the highest quality.
  • Maintain accurate and concise placing files, using corporate document management system.
  • Monthly chasing of outstanding premium payments.
  • Liaise with technical teams to assist the delivery and processing of insurance placements including compliance checks.
  • Support the management team with any new projects and broking services on an ad-hoc basis.

Who we’re looking for

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in insurance operations, with a strong focus on broker backup responsibilities.
  • Solid understanding of the insurance process, ideally within the London and/or international markets.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and well as part of an open and collaborative team.
  • Organised with an attention to detail.
  • Confidence to work with others and provide a supporting role to the team.
  • Advanced Excel and computer literate skills in basic software (i.e Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Word etc.)

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define.

Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.

And we know that separate home and work lives don’t really exist. If you’re happy and healthy at home, you’re more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work – and vice versa. That’s why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Howden we value diversity – there is no one Howden ‘personality type’. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new
  • We support each other, in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges
  • We are determined to make a positive difference, at work and beyond

We consider our people our chief competitive advantage and as such we treat colleagues, candidates, clients, and business partners with equality, fairness, and respect – regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or family circumstances.

Reasonable adjustments

We’re committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours or hybrid working.

If you’re excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.

Our sustainability promise

We’re on a life-long journey to become an ever-more sustainable group. It’s a commitment to taking care of our people and the world we live in, to doing good business, and to making a positive impact wherever we can.
