Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.
About the role
In Analytics, the actuarial team serve and support all Howden businesses including Insurance, Reinsurance and Capital Markets. This spans most geographies – from the Americas, through Europe, Middle East across to Australasia. We have a diverse range of clients via our London and regional offices across the world, who rely heavily on our expertise and insights as well as those independent, second pair of eyes perspective.
You will be responsible for the delivery of actuarial and analytical solutions that provide outstanding value to both consumers (brokers, insureds and re-insureds) and capacity (carriers) alike. The successful applicant will work in tandem with brokers, but within a dynamic multidisciplinary team containing actuarial and catastrophe modelling experts.
Although the role doesn’t require the actuarial qualification and studying for the exams with the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries, Howden will support candidates that would like to begin their studying journey, continue their existing endeavours and/or maintain their professional qualifications/expertise.
What you’ll bring:
The ideal candidate will be an established practitioner in General Insurance with established expertise in pricing, reserving and/or capital modelling. Preferably the candidate’s pricing/reserving experience will be in casualty reinsurance and the candidate will be confident and credible in analysing, designing, pricing reinsurance structures for indemnity and parametric risks. This experience can be from a consultancy, broker or carrier.
You will have:
- An enthusiasm for continuous learning and problem solving
- A focus on the delivery of projects and products as a leader or collaborative team player
- An “owner’s” mindset and look to take on responsibility for the successful completion of projects
- A desire to contribute to and shape the development of a growing team – in particular to guide and mentor the more junior members of the team.
You will have good interpersonal skills, passion, energy, a problem-solving demeanour and a delivery oriented mind-set. An aptitude to listen, to understand and anticipate the project requirements and the ability to optimally and expertly communicate your findings. Enthusiasm and willingness to work with brokers, carriers and/or insureds.
You will be seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity to develop a successful career in Howden. You will help Howden to differentiate ourselves by delivering excellent service to retain existing accounts and help to win new business.
Key accountabilities
You will collaborate with colleagues across Howden as well as the wider Analytics team on projects related to (re)insurance placements or for tender opportunities. Building your network, you will be encouraged and supported to interact with a diverse range of colleagues, peers and clients.
You will be expected to apply (and refine) actuarial and analytical techniques to help deliver advisory and placement projects, working alongside both senior and junior colleagues. Commensurate with your experience and skills, you will lead client and research projects.
What do we offer in return?
A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:
