Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Import Export Clerk to help manage international shipments in containers and bulk vessels.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire shipment process, ensuring compliance with regulations, optimizing transportation routes, and maintaining excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with overseas partners to arrange shipments and collection of goods
- Coordinate with carriers, shipping lines, and other logistics partners to ensure timely delivery.
- Prepare and process shipping documents including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international shipping regulations and customs requirements.
- Track and monitor shipments to keep clients updated on the status of their cargo.
- Handle import/export procedures and manage necessary documentation for customs clearance.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with carriers and service providers.
- Resolve issues related to delays, damage, or loss of cargo.
- Provide quotes and logistics solutions to clients.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Maintain accurate records and update shipment data in logistics systems.
Qualifications
- In depth experience in freight forwarding or customs clearance.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations and documentation.
- Familiarity with customs clearance procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Use of ERP systems such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics etc.
- Ability to handle multiple shipments and work under pressure.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Incoterms and international trade compliance.
- Certification in freight forwarding or logistics (e. g., IATA, FIATA, CILT).
Working Conditions
- Office-based with occasional visits to ports, warehouses, or client sites.
- May require availability outside of regular business hours depending on shipment schedules.
