Howard Kennedy LLP is looking for a talented Senior Associate to join our highly regarded Wealth and Succession team within the Private Client department. Our Private Client Department assists High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth individuals, their families and advisers with tax and estate planning. Clients include entrepreneurs, business owners, artists, authors, musicians, members of foreign royalty, charities and sport professionals in the UK and overseas. Our Wealth and Succession team focuses on Tax, Trusts and Estate Planning, and Administration of Estates. We deliver straightforward advice that facilitates smooth, tax‑efficient transitions of wealth and manage estates with business assets or overseas assets.
Role responsibilities
- Administer a broad range of estates from straightforward to complex, including international aspects.
- Liaise with Personal Representatives and ascertain assets and liabilities of the estate.
- Assist with new enquiries, speak to clients and address queries.
- Support the estate accountant in preparing Estate Accounts.
- Make applications for the Grant of Representation.
- Handle all aspects of post‑grant administration.
- Provide oversight and guidance to junior team members, assisting their knowledge development and ensuring quality and consistency in estate administration matters.
- Draft wills, trusts and estate planning documents for UK and international clients.
- Administer trusts.
- Prepare Lasting Powers of Attorney and undertake Court of Protection work.
- Lead client relationships on selected matters, acting as a key point of contact and ensuring high levels of service delivery.
- Contribute to business development initiatives, including attending networking events, contributing to thought leadership and identifying cross‑selling opportunities.
- Assist and mentor junior team members, including trainees, paralegals and solicitors, with a focus on professional development and technical training.
About you
- Experience in administering a broad range of estates, from straightforward to complex with international aspects.
- Strong tax knowledge necessary for estate administration, tax‑efficient will drafting and related issues.
- Experience advising UK domiciled and international clients on estate planning matters.
- Proven experience supervising and mentoring junior colleagues, with the ability to delegate effectively and support team development.
- Strong intellectual and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience of drafting and technical research.
- Ability to take direction from senior members while working independently and developing your own skillset.
- Proactive approach to client relationship management and ability to build rapport and trust with clients and intermediaries.
- Commercial understanding and ability to apply legal principles to client circumstances in a commercially aware manner.
- Effective management of client expectations and high levels of client service.
- Good organisational skills, record keeping and file management.
- Organised and accurate approach to work.
