Howard Plant Hire, a division of Howard Civil Engineering, are currently seeking experienced plant fitters in response to an increased workload.

Howard Civil Engineering is one of the North’s leading civil engineering companies; a client focussed organisation who prides itself on building strong, trustworthy relationships that are made to last. The right candidate will be both yard and field based, and able to operate in our current areas of work: South and West Yorkshire. During the probation period you will only be yard based.

Job Role
  • Conduct servicing & repairs aiming for maximum machine reliability and a high standard of plant maintenance that always meets or exceeds our customers’ needs regarding safety.
  • Inspect machines at every opportunity and report observed damage, wear, and defects appropriately.
  • Diagnose, service, and repair any broken or faulty machinery.
  • Ensure all tasks in the depot and site environments are conducted to the requirements of the company health and safety policy and comply with company rules and procedures related to health and safety.
  • Provide consultation on correct operation and daily maintenance measures to the machine operators.
  • Liaise with management to ensure stock is replenished adequately.
  • Keep logs of work, in addition to completing job sheets and weekly labour allocation reports.
  • Ensure job sheet contains a comprehensive description of parts and oils used, as well as a detailed account of labour hours including travel & waiting time, in addition to repair time & disposing of waste.
  • Ensure supplier delivery notes are handed promptly to the Hire Desk Assistant.
  • Facilitate occasional deliveries requested by the Hire Desk.
  • Carry out repairs on the company fleet, which consists of small to medium-sized vans. Our van assets are Peugeot Partners ranging from 16 to 23 plates – having previous experience with this vehicle is beneficial.
  • Other heavy plant assets include: Excavators (Komatsu, Doosan, Kobelco, Takeuchi & Volvo), Dumper Trucks (Wacker Neuson, Thwaites), Trench Compactor (Wacker Neuson, Bomag) and Rollers (Bomag). Previous experience with this machinery is also beneficial.
The Person
  • Calm under pressure situations, such as short timeframes for repairs.
  • To be reactive and proactive towards repairs/stock/health & safety etc.
  • Adopt a team mentality and help colleagues if required.
  • Ideally provide your own tools.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working on heavy plant vehicles is crucial for success.
  • Vast knowledge of plant machinery, including hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Competent with the service and repair of plant & vehicles.
  • A recognised trade qualification is beneficial – Level 2/3 in plant maintenance or similar.
