Howard Civil Engineering are a civil engineering and groundworkers contractor working with some of the largest names in the industry. We work either as a sub-contractor to Tier 1 builders or as principal contractor, it is integral to the role you maintain our high health and safety standards whilst achieving the most from your managed sites. HCE are seeking an experienced, skilled leader with a passionate approach to infrastructure and civils projects to manage a returning project for a trusted client. The scheme consists of foundations, ground floor slabs, surface & foul water drainage, external services, large external works package, minor earthworks & street furniture as part of an extension on a new school build. Experience on similar project is beneficial and working as a sub-contractor is required.

Role and responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for all health & safety matters on site.
  • Check & action safety reports and monitor actions to comply with requirements.
  • Must be able to manage, control and co-ordinate all site operations for labour and sub-contractors, in conjunction with management team by delegating to Supervisor and Site Manager.
  • To ensure legislative compliance & adherence to company policies and procedures by delegating to other members of the site management team as and when required.
  • Ensure all RAMS are prepared, in place and signed up to in advance of works commencing.
  • Regular monitoring of the work force on site.
  • Log and inform HSEQ Manager of any accidents, near misses or service strikes.
  • Deliver a quality product, on time, on budget and safely, in accordance with design documentation, specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Always ensure the HCE quality management system is in place and up to date.
  • Procurement is managed in line with tender budgets whilst achieving the best economical outcomes permitted in current market climate, in collaboration with procurement, estimating & commercial departments.
  • Liaise with the commercial team to ensure costs are monitored, managed and minimised where possible.
  • Manage all plant internal and external in line with program and outputs, inclusive of selection of plant, hiring and off hiring.
  • Provide clear direction, support, and motivation to members of your team.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Provide regular project updates, address client concerns, and manage expectations.
  • Adopt a continuous improvement mindset to evaluate project performance and implement best work practices.
  • Responsible to the Construction Director/Contracts Manager for all aspects of the project which includes the attainment of the required quality, safety programme, profitability, co-ordination of site works and effectiveness of the site quality system.
  • Pre commencement planning, community and business liaison.
  • Understand project scope of works from conception and ensure delivery is in line with the tender programme and subsequent updated construction phase programmes, and sequencing contained within these documents.
  • Oversee and administer change management procedures and processes.
  • Establish close relationships and maintain liaison with clients, design teams and CDM Coordinator.
  • Ensure the appointment of all specialist task specific roles.
  • Responsible for ensuring all contract documentation is uploaded onto SharePoint/company portals in line with HCE standards.
  • Plan, formulate and present progress reporting structure, both internally and to the Client.
  • Assume overall responsibility for construction, through to the completion of the project, to the agreed programme.
  • Prepare, manage and maintain the Project Quality Plan, including regular review and revision as necessary in conjunction with engineering team.
  • Oversee and maintain Fieldview system to formulate weekly pack in collaboration with site team.
  • Control contractual correspondence and distribution of information.
  • Control staffing for the project regular correspondence with recruitment and contracts manager to ensure resources align to program.
  • Ensure preparation of O and M manuals is carried out in a timely manner and issued to client.
  • Ensure HCE Environmental procedures are implemented on site.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years as a project manager with a proven record of development.
  • Degree qualified is preferable.
  • A strong knowledge of civil engineering projects, including experience with drainage schemes.
  • Proven journey from civils background.
  • A proven knowledge of JCT contracts.
  • Compliance to project programme.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methodologies.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • In depth knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards.
  • In date SMSTS.
  • Groundworker/plant operator background is desirable.
  • Level 6 NVQ in Construction Senior Management or equal.
  • First Aid.
  • A client focussed approach.
