Ready to start a new career in Transport & Logistics? Whether you're looking to start your career, change direction or develop new skills, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for. At Hovis Bakeries, we're looking for someone with drive, enthusiasm and a genuine willingness to learn to join our Transport Team as a Logistics & Transport Apprentice.

No previous logistics experience? No problem. We're not looking for someone who already knows everything about transport and logistics. We'll teach you that. What matters to us is your attitude, potential and ambition.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Drive & ambition – you’re motivated to develop yourself and build a career
  • A passion for learning – you’re curious, enthusiastic and keen to develop new skills
  • Great attention to detail – you take pride in getting things right and spotting when something doesn’t look quite right
  • Organisation – you can manage different tasks and priorities in a busy environment
  • A problem-solving mindset – you enjoy finding answers and understanding how things work
  • Strong communication – you’re comfortable working with different people and being part of a team
  • A positive attitude – you’re willing to get involved, ask questions and learn from those around you

If that sounds like you, we can teach you the logistics. We don’t want you to complete an apprenticeship and then wonder “what next?” From the beginning, we want to help you build the knowledge, experience and qualifications to keep progressing.

LEARN

Level 2 Traffic Office Apprenticeship: Build your knowledge while gaining hands‑on experience in our Transport Team.

PROGRESS

Level 3 Transport Supervisor Apprenticeship: Develop your skills further and start preparing for greater responsibility.

BUILD YOUR CAREER

Future Transport, Logistics & Management Opportunities: Continue developing your skills and explore future opportunities as your experience grows. You bring the ambition. We’ll help you build the career.

You’ll combine structured apprenticeship learning with hands‑on experience in our busy Transport Team. Around 80% of your time will be spent learning and working alongside the team, with 20% dedicated to your apprenticeship learning and development.

You’ll gradually learn how a busy transport operation works and develop practical experience in areas including:

  • Day-to-day transport operations
  • Working with and supporting our drivers
  • Driver debriefs and administration
  • Route planning and transport scheduling
  • Vehicle tracking and telematics
  • Fleet management and compliance
  • Transport legislation and driver hours
  • Investigating delivery and customer service issues
  • Producing and analysing reports
  • Using Excel and transport systems
  • Understanding how an HGV fleet is managed safely and efficiently

We don't expect you to know how to do all of this when you join us. That's what the apprenticeship and our training are there for.

Transport and logistics is a 7-day operation, so your shift pattern will include some weekend and Bank Holiday working. This is a normal part of working within the transport industry and, as you develop and progress your career, gaining experience across different days and operational periods will help you build a well‑rounded understanding of how a busy transport operation works.

What matters to us? You might already have experience from another industry that has given you great transferable skills. You might be looking for a complete career change. Or you might simply be ready to learn something new. Previous logistics experience isn't required.

What we’re interested in is someone who is reliable, motivated, enthusiastic and committed to their own development. You'll need a good standard of computer skills and be comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, as systems, data and information play an important part in modern transport operations. You'll also need strong attention to detail, good communication skills and the confidence to work with different people across our operation.

What will you get from us?

We want this apprenticeship to provide the foundations for a long‑term career. You’ll receive:

  • Earn while you learn – £25,500–£29,000 per year, plus a great range of benefits
  • A structured apprenticeship programme
  • Nationally recognised qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience within a busy transport operation
  • Training and support from experienced colleagues
  • Experience using real transport systems and technology
  • Exposure to transport planning, fleet management and compliance
  • Opportunities to develop your professional and technical skills
  • A clear pathway towards further qualifications and greater responsibility
  • Future career opportunities as your skills and experience develop

You don't need a CV full of transport or logistics experience. We're looking for someone who can show us enthusiasm, ambition, attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn. If you're ready to learn new skills, gain recognised qualifications and work towards a long-term career, we'd love to hear from you. No previous logistics experience required. Just the right attitude and a willingness to learn.
