Hover helps people design, improve, and protect the properties they love. With proprietary AI built on over a decade of real property data, Hover answers age-old questions like “What will it look like?” and “What will it cost?” Homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals rely on Hover to get fully measured, accurate, and interactive 3D models of any property — all from a smartphone scan in minutes. At Hover, we’re driven by curiosity, purpose, and a shared commitment to serving our customers, communities, and each other. We believe the best ideas come from diverse perspectives and are proud to cultivate an inclusive, high-performance culture that inspires growth, accountability, and excellence.
The Inspections team is responsible for one of Hover's fastest-growing products and plays a critical role in helping some of the largest insurers in the world make better decisions about properties. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can help us scale that product while shaping its future architecture. You'll begin by building customer-facing features that improve the inspection experience and quickly grow into helping lead a strategic evolution of the platform as we transition portions of our React Native application into native SDK capabilities. This is a role for someone who enjoys balancing product thinking with technical depth.
You will contribute by:
- Building and scaling customer-facing experiences that help contractors, adjusters, and insurance professionals make faster, more informed decisions.
- Partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to shape solutions from initial concept through launch, ensuring we're solving meaningful customer problems while delivering intuitive, high-quality experiences.
- Playing a key role in the evolution of Hover Inspections, leading initiatives that improve platform reliability, scalability, and developer experience while helping define the future architecture of the product.
- Evaluating technical tradeoffs, influencing architectural decisions, and helping establish a foundation that supports long-term growth.
- Contributing to engineering excellence across the team through thoughtful system design, strong testing practices, code reviews, and operational improvements.
- Operating with a high degree of ownership, taking projects from idea to implementation, launch, and ongoing support while helping build products that are reliable, scalable, and valuable in the real-world environments where our customers work every day.
Your background includes:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production software at scale.
- A track record of owning customer-facing features from concept through launch, working closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners.
- Experience building and shipping mobile applications using React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or similar technologies.
- Strong product instincts and the ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritise customer needs, and deliver business impact.
- Experience leading technical projects and making thoughtful architectural and implementation tradeoff decisions.
- Experience contributing across multiple layers of the stack, with the ability to independently drive features end-to-end.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to solving complex problems.
Bonus points:
- Experience building mobile-first products used by customers in real-world environments.
- Experience building SDKs, platform capabilities, or reusable developer tooling.
- Experience migrating applications between frameworks or leading architectural modernisation efforts.
- Experience building offline-first mobile experiences.
- Experience with GraphQL and API design, including performance optimisations.
- Experience leveraging modern developer tooling, including AI-assisted development tools, to improve engineering productivity and quality.
- Experience serving as a technical lead for large cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience working in high-growth product organisations where ambiguity, changing requirements, and rapid iteration are common.
- Experience in insurance, construction, mapping, field-service, computer vision, or camera-based applications.
Benefits:
- Compensation - Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a fast-growing company.
- Healthcare - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents.
- Paid Time Off - Unlimited and flexible vacation policy.
- Paid Family Leave - We support work/life balance and offer generous paid parental and new child bonding leave.
- Mandatory Self-Care Days - A day set aside each month to allow employees to recharge.
- Remote Wellbeing Resources - We provide recurring fitness classes, meditation/mindfulness tools, virtual therapy, and family planning assistance.
- Learning - We encourage continued education and will help cover the cost of management training, conferences, workshops, or certifications.
