Housr is a fast-growing, well-backed Series A tech company on a mission to radically improve the student rental experience across the globe. The company was founded after co-founders Harry and Ben experienced first-hand how broken, stressful and outdated student renting felt while at university and decided there had to be a better way. Since then, Housr has grown rapidly across the UK and the US, partnering with leading colleges and operators to create a fairer, simpler and more transparent rental journey for students and parents alike. We now operate across our 3 offices - Manchester, Chicago and New York. In 2025, Housr hit $10m ARR before raising a $10m Series A, giving us the runway and ambition to scale rapidly. Today, we’re a close-knit global team of ~45 people (plus a large student brand ambassador network), with engineering at the heart of everything we build. Under the leadership of our founders, Harry Neil Panter and Ben Clayton, the focus is clear: move fast, build with purpose, and make a genuine impact on student lives. This is a pivotal moment to join - we’re looking to double the engineering team and enter the most ambitious product phase in Housr’s history.

As a Full Stack Engineer, you’ll be a core contributor as we scale our platform, launch new revenue streams, and deepen the value we offer students, parents and partners. Day to day, you’ll:

  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs using the latest versions of PHP and Laravel
  • Develop frontend experiences across React, Next.js and React Native (Expo)
  • Work within an AWS environment (EC2, AppRunner, CodePipeline, S3, RDS)
  • Collaborate closely with internal Product and Design teams - with clear ownership, strong feedback loops, and real influence on decisions
  • Contribute to a clean, modular codebase with a MySQL database at its core
  • Review code, share knowledge, and help shape best practices across the team
  • Use AI tools in your development workflow (we actively encourage it) while applying sound engineering judgement and QA
  • Work is planned collaboratively by Product and Engineering, ensuring the team is aligned, focused, and shipping meaningful improvements every sprint.

We’re looking for 2x mid-level Full Stack Engineers (around 3+ years commercial experience), ideally with time spent in a startup or scale-up environment. You may lean slightly backend or frontend, but you’re comfortable working across the stack. You’ll have commercial experience with our current stack:

  • Laravel / PHP (core backend services & APIs)
  • React, Next.js and/or React Native
  • AWS infrastructure
  • MySQL

You care about code quality, performance and maintainability. You’re comfortable using AI tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude, Copilot) as part of your workflow — and know how to review, validate and improve AI-assisted output. You’re ambitious, proactive and want your work to have visible, real-world impact. You enjoy working in a close-knit, collaborative engineering team where voices are genuinely heard. You’re based in (or can commute to) the North West and are happy with our hybrid setup.

What We Offer:

  • Salary - Genuinely Market Competitive!! (We’re happy to disclose our benchmarked bandings during the interview process)
  • Share Options - The opportunity to gain from Housr’s success with our Share Options scheme (again, we’re happy to discuss during the interview process)
  • Holiday - 25 days off, plus bank holidays each year
  • Free Gym Membership - Keep fit, with free use of our on-site gym
  • Monthly Team Lunches - At the end of each month, we all grab lunch together as a team, and also have the afternoon off to focus on ourselves
  • Company socials - A chance to let our hair down as a team. Past socials have ranged from paintball to ping pong tournaments - we’re quite competitive!
  • Amazing Central Manchester office space
  • Hybrid Work Policy - We’re big advocates of in-person collaboration. We’re in the office four days a week, with Thursday as a team-wide work from home day.

Interview Process:

  • First Stage - Exploratory call with our Talent Partner to discuss your experience and go through any initial questions (30 mins)
  • Second Stage - Informal video call with one of Senior Developers - learn what it’s like to be a Engineer at Housr (30 mins)
  • Third Stage - Remote hiring task to evaluate key skills for the role
  • Fourth Stage - A single F2F interview split into two parts:
  • Part 1 - A chance for us to chat through your task (what went well, what you’d improve with more time etc) (30 mins)
  • Part 2 - Wider ranging questions about your experiences and motivations for working at Housr, approaches to certain scenarios, working style and what you’ll bring to this role (30 mins)
