Care Housing Association (Care) is a non-profit Community Benefit Society providing specialised supported housing to over 500 individuals with support needs in the north of England. We are seeking a Housing Officer to join the Operations Team.

We are a small team based in Rossendale, Lancashire, but we’re growing and our properties are located across the north of England. We are looking to appoint a versatile new team member, who can work well with our tenants, colleagues and key stakeholders to deliver the level of service Care are known for.

Care is a great place to work, providing agile and flexible working options, and a strong values-driven approach. We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience of working in supported housing or wider housing management roles.

Terms:

  • 35 hours per week
  • Travel expenses at 55p per mile plus £3,000 annual essential car user allowance
  • Training provided
  • 25 days’ holiday per year (plus bank holidays and your birthday), increasing with length of service, with option to purchase additional days
  • Enhanced parental leave and pay

Purpose of the Job:

To deliver a high-quality housing management service across a designated patch of supported housing properties, ensuring excellent customer service, effective tenancy management, and strong partnership working with tenants, colleagues, and external agencies.

We are looking for a flexible individual to complete varied housing management tasks on behalf of the Association. The role will involve a mix of work visiting supported tenants and properties as well as desk-based tasks. Some experience in a similar role is essential but training will be given.

Each Housing Officer manages a patch of tenancies, covering everything from signs ups to void management including housing benefit claims, repairs reporting, rent accounting and ASB management. This will include significant travel but means no two days are the same. Housing Officers will work with the Tenant Engagement Officer as well as colleagues in assets, finance and development teams. They are managed by a Senior Housing Officer and the Head of Operations/Deputy CEO leads the team. Housing Officers are expected to ensure effective working relationships with tenants, colleagues, external care and support agencies and local authorities, and to contribute to the maintenance and development of the Association’s values, culture and ethos.

  • Act as a key point of contact for tenants, responding to enquiries promptly and in line with policies and procedures.
  • Carry out regular property inspections (minimum quarterly) and ensure properties are well maintained.
  • Work with tenants and partner agencies to resolve housing issues, including addressing tenancy breaches and antisocial behaviour.
  • Support tenants with housing-related financial matters including housing benefit applications and ongoing claims.
  • Monitor rent accounts, void performance and tenant recharges, taking appropriate action where required.
  • Work closely with the repairs team to ensure repairs are reported effectively and completed in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with development colleagues to support smooth handover of new schemes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tenant records, including risks and support needs.
  • Record key communications with tenants, representatives and support workers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams (operations, assets, finance, development) and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated services.
  • Support tenant engagement activity in partnership with the Tenant Engagement Officer.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service and contribute to high levels of tenant satisfaction.
  • Promote the aims, objectives and positive reputation of the Association.
  • Participate in performance reviews, training, and development activities.
  • Work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours working where required.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably required.

This job description is not exhaustive. In view of changing demands, legislation and regulations, duties may be reviewed and revised where reasonably necessary.
