At Yorkshire Housing, it’s our aim that everyone has a place they’re proud to call home. Strong governance and a healthy approach to risk are key to making that happen. We’re looking for a Risk and Assurance Lead who’s not just great at managing risk frameworks and reporting, but who genuinely enjoys helping people understand risk and feel confident managing it.

You’ll lead the delivery of our risk management framework, ensuring it’s practical, well‑used, and adds real value across the business. You’ll also provide independent, objective oversight of risk and controls, helping us make good decisions for our customers, colleagues and communities. You’ll take the reins on our Internal Audit Plan, working closely with teams and partners to learn, improve and do the right thing. You’ll play a big part in building awareness and capability across Yorkshire Housing, empowering colleagues rather than overwhelming them with risk.

This Agile Homeworking role is mostly remote, but you should be able to come into our Leeds workspace as and when needed for team meetings and co‑working. We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go. If you want to work for a truly flexible company that values you, this could be the role for you!

What we’re all about

We’re not a typical housing provider: with around 20,000 homes (and more in the pipeline), we’re on track to build 8,000 new homes across Yorkshire. We’re dedicated to creating exceptional customer experiences and building a culture that prioritises excellence, innovation, and customer obsession.

What will you be doing?

  • Working closely with risk owners and stakeholders to identify, assess and manage our strategic and operational risks.
  • Keeping our risk registers, policies and processes up to date, clear and useful.
  • Supporting and constructively challenging managers to ensure risk information is accurate and meaningful.
  • Producing clear, insightful risk reports for leadership teams, committees, and boards.
  • Helping the board and executive team review our risk appetite and understand where we stand.
  • Carrying out risk maturity assessments and supporting improvement actions.
  • Managing the internal audit programme, coordinating reviews and keeping actions on track.
  • Reporting progress on audit recommendations to the audit & risk committee.
  • Delivering training and advice to help colleagues use the risk management framework confidently.
  • Managing controls assurance testing and recommending improvements.
  • Facilitating risk workshops with committees and the board.
  • Supporting business continuity planning, ensuring plans are up to date, tested and fit for purpose.

Who are we looking for?

  • Real, hands‑on experience in risk management – not a newcomer.
  • Proven ability to lead risk at an organisational level.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills, able to work with busy directors and senior leaders, influencing, guiding and challenging constructively.
  • Sharp eye for detail and a naturally analytical approach, transforming complex information into clear, useful insight.
  • Comfortable being the steady hand that keeps our risk approach consistent, well‑managed, and genuinely helpful across the organisation.
  • Curiosity, adaptability and willingness to keep learning.
  • Ability to make the most of data and technology.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities.

What’s in it for you

  • Salary: £41,874 per annum (35 hours/week)
  • 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 annually) plus bank holidays.
  • Permanent contract.
  • Reward package: prescription, eye test reimbursements, retail discounts, pension scheme matching up to 9%.
  • Well‑being support: fitness classes, instant My GP service, free counselling sessions.

Location: Leeds – Agile Homeworking
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £41,874 per annum
Closing date: 2nd June 2026
