As a Print Production Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting the UK's parliamentary democracy. Your work will help members carry out their responsibilities effectively - contributing to something bigger than any one role. You'll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions.
You'll be based on the parliamentary estate in Westminster - a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.
What you'll be doing
- Operate the Unit's large-scale production printers to fulfil orders for core publications from the Printed Paper Office, which distributes papers to members, and ad hoc requests.
- Print and distribute committee circulations, ensuring full and accurate record keeping and effective communication with customers.
- Liaise with the Printed Paper Office to ensure the timely delivery of documents and to maintain an awareness of customer demand.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks on all print equipment and log callouts for complex faults with the Unit's equipment supplier, maintaining records to ensure issues are dealt with promptly or escalated when appropriate.
Please note that the Unit is staffed with two overlapping shifts to cover its opening hours, from 7am to 8pm, and this role is based on-site.
What we're looking for
- Recent and substantial experience of working in a modern digital print environment and of the use of large-scale print production machinery.
- Knowledge of print processes and terminology, and familiarity with production print pre-press software.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload to complete tasks on time and to a high standard.
- The ability to work independently but also to be flexible within a team and share responsibility for ensuring that excellent customer service standards are upheld.
- Good communication skills and capable of dealing with a range of customers and queries, providing advice, and setting expectations with confidence.
It would be even better if you have (or are willing to learn): A basic understanding of the work of the House of Lords.
