We are looking for a Senior Events Manager to join our Catering and Retail Services Office at the House of Lords. This is a position where you will manage the day‑to‑day running of the Event Operations ensuring that the team provides a professional and efficient service and operates to the highest standards. As the Senior Event Manager, this role requires significant levels of service delivery skills plus initiative to work without continuous supervision often during busy service times. The post‑holder may be required to move outlet from time to time depending on variable needs of the Department. This is a great opportunity to work onsite at Parliament!
Responsibilities
- Operate within defined resource allocation of staff, stock and all other expenditure relevant to the operation to deliver demanding targets on service standards, cost control and wider financial constraints.
- Plan, brief and allocate service teams according to the individual and variable needs of each event, including set‑up, service and break down.
- Lead, motivate and develop a diverse team of permanent, variable hours and agency staff, identifying training needs and supporting structured development and progression, while contributing to workforce planning and promoting a culture of professionalism, inclusivity and high performance.
- Ensure all staff have a smart appearance and correct uniform and protective clothes as required; maintaining discipline and integrity of service.
- Work closely with chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure a seamless service according to event specifications, clarity of understanding and cooperation.
- Fire marshal for the appropriate outlet.
- Champion the use of event management systems and digital tools, ensuring accurate and timely data input across all events.
- Maintain accurate event documentation, ensuring clear communication across all departments.
- Produce rota’s to include initial allocation of shifts in line with business needs ensuring that all contractual hours are fulfilled and all shifts are staffed to an appropriate level, through liaising effectively with staff and managers.
Qualifications
- Proven management experience within a large, complex events operation in a high‑end (4/5 star) hospitality or venue environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to work effectively within a small management team and motivate staff.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior individuals, across face‑to‑face, written and telephone interactions.
- Demonstrable organisational, administrative and problem‑solving abilities, with strong attention to detail, numeracy skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Sound financial and operational knowledge, including experience of stock control, relevant financial processes and IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Office, EPOS).
- Knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements including food hygiene, health and safety, alongside a commitment to political impartiality, discretion and professional integrity.
