You'll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions.
You'll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster - a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.
What you'll be doing
You'll gain hands-on experience while completing a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship through a structured training programme, leading to a recognised qualification. You'll be learning at a pace that suits you, supported by a mentor, your line manager and experienced colleagues. You'll be supporting the Office Manager and Senior Management Team by helping to plan meetings, communicate decisions and deliver key administrative tasks. You'll also be contributing to corporate priorities such as financial management, business continuity, health and safety, and risk management, while helping to strengthen internal communications and processes across the office.
As part of a varied and collaborative environment, you'll be working with teams across the Journal Office to build your skills and experience. This will include providing support in areas such as supplying papers to members of the House of Lords and responding to queries, assisting with data collection and analysis, and contributing to committee administration and the maintenance of registers of interests. This is a multi-faceted role where you'll be developing valuable skills through a mix of administrative and member-facing work.

We're looking for someone who can bring their skills and experience to make a meaningful contribution here. You'll have:
- Teamworking: Experience of working effectively with others, including guiding and influencing them where appropriate

- Communications: The ability to represent the Journal Office to a wide range of internal stakeholders
- Drafting and numeracy: Clear and accurate oral, written and online communications skills, and good numeracy
- Tact and discretion: The ability to deal tactfully and discreetly with confidential or sensitive issues
- Values: Commitment to the values of the House of Lords Administration and to promoting inclusion and diversity
It would be even better if you have:
- An understanding of the work of the House of Lords
- Budget recording experience
What you can expect
The Central Support Apprentice will join a diverse office, comprising several small teams where diversity is valued and staff are united in their commitment to delivering the best service possible to members, colleagues and other stakeholders. You'll need to be a good team player, motivated, show initiative and be interested in how the second chamber of Parliament operates. You'll be part of a community that values your wellbeing, supports your development, and recognises the contribution you make.
You'll benefit from:
- 30 days annual leave (rising to 35 after one year), plus public holidays
- A generous Civil Service pension
- Access to learning and development across a wide range of roles and professions
- Support for your health and wellbeing
- The opportunity to be at the heart of UK parliamentary democracy
We know flexibility matters. Wherever possible, we'll support working patterns that work for you - including hybrid working, job share or adjusted hours. We'll be open about what's possible for this role.
