The House of Commons are looking for a Senior Project Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to lead the delivery of high‑profile projects across the UK Parliamentary estate. You will manage a team of project leads delivering mechanical‑led projects valued between £50k and £2m, taking schemes from early definition and business case through design, procurement, construction and handover. Working on nationally significant, often listed, buildings, you will act as a senior technical authority, review designs, coordinate multiple disciplines and stakeholders, and ensure compliance with Parliamentary standards, CDM regulations and statutory requirements. Beyond delivery, you will help shape how projects are run, drive continuous improvement and support the move toward condition‑based maintenance. You will also have opportunities to deputise for senior managers and contribute to major programmes, including Restoration and Renewal. With strong training and development support, this is a chance to build your career while helping maintain and modernise one of the most unique estates in the UK. This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with an expectation of spending 60% of your time in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of high‑profile mechanical projects valued between £50k and £2m across the Parliament estate.
  • Manage a team of project leads from early definition and business case through design, procurement, construction and handover.
  • Act as a senior technical authority, review designs, coordinate multiple disciplines and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with Parliamentary standards, CDM regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Shape project delivery, drive continuous improvement and support condition‑based maintenance.
  • Assist senior managers and contribute to major programmes such as Restoration and Renewal.

Qualifications

  • Degree‑level in Mechanical Engineering & a Chartered Status or working towards it.
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills, capable of building and maintaining inclusive relationships.
  • Experience delivering projects and managing multiple maintenance projects.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety in maintenance and familiarity with CDM regulations.
  • Practical understanding of NEC contracts and experience in a financial environment for project delivery.
