Overview
I’m looking for a dedicated and professional Parliamentary Assistant and Researcher as MP for Harpenden & Berkhamsted and the Lib Dem spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology. Mainly focused on helping me with my Parliamentary duties and bringing constituent concerns to Parliament (questions, letters, speeches, diary, debates, stakeholder management) and occasionally helping with policy casework.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions etc.
- Assist in writing external communications including speeches for the MP
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and in the local constituency.
- Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
- Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
- Assist with casework as required
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
- Diary Management
- Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify potential impacts from the research work and disseminate them effectively
- Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

- Good knowledge of office based IT systems and administrative tasks. Able to work individually and as part of a team. Ability to gain awareness of the activities of an MP\’s office, policy and law
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a sensitive and public facing role
- Sound ability to deal effectively, sensitively, with a wide range of people in person, by telephone and in writing (email and letter)
- Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values
After 12 months Victoria may need to restructure her staffing arrangements in order to ensure the right balance between her constituency and Westminster offices.
