What you’ll be doing

This is a key position within the House of Commons Chamber and Participation Team (CPT) senior management team, reporting to the Clerk Assistant who is also Managing Director of CPT. The postholder will hold one of the following four key roles – Clerk of the Journals, Clerk of Legislation, Principal Clerk of the Table Office and Chamber Business Team Strategic Director – collectively supporting the Clerk of the House and the Clerk Assistant by giving advice on parliamentary practice and procedure. In addition to managing people and resources, the successful candidate will act on sole charge as a Table Clerk with knowledge and authority, advising the Chair, business managers and others on Chamber business. Detailed knowledge of the procedures and practices of the House, or a similar institution, is essential. The role requires a senior leader who will role‑model the House of Commons values in all aspects of their role.

  • Detailed knowledge of the procedures and practices of the House, or relevant knowledge of a similar institution, so that the candidate is able to act as the final authority on specific procedural areas.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with a strong commitment to inclusion and diversity.
  • Ability to analyse complex and evolving situations.
  • Capacity to engage, influence and communicate effectively.
  • Strategic thinking and planning.

Compensation

Salary will be at the minimum of the range, except in exceptional circumstances.
