Introduction
Are you looking to be part of a team that plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day running of the UK Parliament? The Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST) supports both the House of Commons and House of Lords by maintaining the Parliamentary Estate to a high standard, ensuring it remains safe, functional and fit for purpose. The Reactive Maintenance team delivers essential repairs across a diverse estate, from historic Grade I listed buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site to supporting major ceremonial events such as the State Opening of Parliament. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the upkeep of one of the most iconic estates in the UK.
The Role
You will join a team of five Carpenters based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster, supporting the maintenance of a diverse and historic estate, including Grade I listed buildings. This is a varied, hands-on role carrying out reactive and planned carpentry tasks, alongside supporting wider team activities. Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Carrying out reactive carpentry maintenance tasks.
- Completing planned preventative maintenance, including fire doors.
- Producing and repairing items in the workshop.
- Supporting flag flying duties in line with Parliamentary protocols.
Skills And Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Hold an NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent).
- Experience delivering high-quality reactive carpentry maintenance in a busy environment.
- Be confident using mobile technology and IT systems (including MS Office) to manage and update tasks.
- Understand how to work safely in occupied buildings and can interpret drawings and instructions independently.
