The Parliamentary Security Department (PSD) is responsible for physical and personnel security across both Houses of Parliament and provides support to Members and staff when away from the Estate. The Security Vetting and Pass Office team is a team of around 40 who undertake various security checks to mitigate the risk to parliament of insiders.
The Security Vetting Technology Lead is a new role created to provide internal support on all the technical systems used by the vetting team. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a technical background, for example someone who is comfortable interrogating the back end of platforms such as Dynamics 365 and creating dashboards in Power BI, but has experience of engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will also help us maximise opportunities from our new digital systems related to developing and improving reporting functions including the creation of MI dashboards for senior management, as well as maintaining data integrity of our databases.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Support the Data, Access and Technology Manager in identifying, testing and championing the adoption of technology and functionality to modernise and future-proof the vetting team systems, including our key Dynamics 365 platform.
- Lead on troubleshooting problems with the technical systems.
- Identify gaps and communicate development requirements of the vetting team systems, presenting complex technical information to users, customers, decision-makers and suppliers.
- Develop reports and dashboards using varied report-writing or data extraction tools including PowerBI, Excel and SQL queries.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Strong skills in engaging with and working collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholder groups.
- Previous exposure and sound knowledge of the Dynamics 365 platform to be able to provide excellent technical support and trouble-shooting.
- Demonstrable experience of identifying product gaps in digital systems.
- Experience of using a variety of extraction tools to extract data from digital systems to analyse, with a view to improving and/or maintaining data integrity and using these findings to update a database.
- Highly effective in extracting data using Power BI to develop meaningful and clear dashboards/reports.
