The Parliamentary Maintenance Team serves both the House of Commons & House of Lords carrying out reactive maintenance requests on the Parliamentary Estate. The in-house Reactive team consists of some 45 craft persons and assistants ranging from electricians and plumbers to upholsterers and locksmiths who provide a day-to-day reactive repair service across the estate.

You will work as part of a team of approximately four Plumbers based on the Parliamentary estate in Westminster. You will help to maintain our grade one listed buildings and UNESCO world heritage site as well as all the other buildings that make up the parliamentary estate.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Carry out reactive Plumbing maintenance tasks
  • Carry out related multi-skilled mechanical maintenance tasks
  • Planned preventative maintenance tasks
  • Semi-skilled work
  • Producing and repairing items

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Qualifications: NVQ level 3 in plumbing
  • Experience, Capable and Understanding of:
  • Providing a wide range of reactive and planned Plumbing services
  • Working on a complex and demanding estate to provide a high-quality service
  • Carrying out reactive Plumbing and basic mechanical services
  • Using mobile IT to receive, complete and update work tasks live
  • Using IT to email, and use MS Office software
  • Methods/constraints when working in an occupied building
  • Techniques used to maintain a complex building
  • Building management systems
  • Relevant Health and Safety legislation relating to maintenance activities
  • Communication: Communicates ideas to stakeholders to resolve problems with a broad range of people at all levels.
  • Working Together: Ability to work successfully within a team, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion to deliver high-quality services.
