We are excited to offer the Committee Support Officer Apprentice role within the Select Committee's Team as part of our Speaker's Apprenticeship Academy. Now in its third year, the Academy supports early career talent and helps widen opportunities within the House Service. You'll gain valuable experience working in UK Parliament, at the heart of British democracy all while developing skills in a unique and fast-paced environment. You don't need to be a politics expert. We welcome applicants who are early in their careers and not in full-time education. You must be aged 18 or over by the end of the summer holidays.

As a Committee Support Officer Apprentice, you'll provide administrative support to one or more Committees, helping to ensure their work runs smoothly and effectively. You'll assist with the organisation of Committee meetings, including preparing rooms and welcoming witnesses and visitors, manage correspondence and enquiries, support the preparation and circulation of Committee papers and meeting minutes, and prepare written evidence for publication on the Committee website. You'll be working closely with colleagues across Committee teams, and you'll also have the opportunity to engage with Committee Chairs, Members, their staff, stakeholders and members of the public. You may also support the work of multiple teams as part of a cross-Committee approach. Full training and ongoing support will be provided, with structured learning to help you build your skills and confidence throughout the apprenticeship. This is a fixed-term role for 18 months, offering valuable experience and development, alongside support in preparing for future career opportunities.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for this role. You must not already hold the same or similar qualifications. Please note, as this role is an apprenticeship, there is no requirement to have a degree qualification. If you have a degree in an unrelated subject to apprenticeship qualification, then you are eligible to apply. If you have a degree or a qualification in a similar subject to the apprenticeship, please contact the Apprenticeships Team as you may be ineligible to apply. Learners aged 18 must pass Level 2 Functional Skills exams in English and Maths to complete their apprenticeship if they do not already have a grade C/4 or above in these subjects.

Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express information in a clear manner with good attention to detail. Ability to work inclusively and flexibly within a team, recognises the importance of diversity and inclusion, positively accepts constructive feedback and acts on advice given. Ability to plan and prioritise own workload to achieve deadlines and knows when to seek support. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Outlook. Has the capability to learn new IT skills, including internal systems.
