The predicted salary is between 54000 - 66000 £ per year.

  • Degree qualified or completed/undertaking an apprenticeship in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
  • Some relevant experience through graduate employment, internships, placements, or project work within civil, structural, construction, energy, infrastructure, or engineering environments.
  • Basic understanding of civil and structural engineering principles, including load paths, structural behaviour, reinforced concrete, steelwork and foundations.
  • Basic understanding of Eurocodes and relevant engineering standards, with an interest in developing knowledge of nuclear and industry-specific requirements.
  • Able to assist with engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings and design documentation under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as Auto CAD, Tekla, STAAD. Pro, SAP2000, ETABS or similar would be advantageous.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to investigate technical issues and learn from experienced engineers.
  • Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams, collaborating with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and construction disciplines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical information and ask appropriate questions when support is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, safety and engineering standards, particularly within highly regulated environments.
  • Motivated to develop professionally and work towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status through relevant professional development and training.

What You'll Do

As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil and structural engineering activities across major nuclear and infrastructure projects.

Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will assist with the design, assessment and documentation of civil and structural elements, including anchorage systems, supports, foundations and associated infrastructure.

You will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while gaining experience across the project lifecycle, from design and engineering calculations through to construction and site support.

You will work to relevant design codes, project specifications and quality requirements, with guidance and supervision from senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and assessment of civil and structural elements, including anchorage systems, fixings, baseplates, supports and foundations.
  • Support senior engineers with structural calculations, design checks and technical assessments in accordance with Eurocodes, project specifications and relevant standards.
  • Assist with assessments of structures and components under static, dynamic and seismic loading conditions, as required.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications and design documentation under appropriate supervision.
  • Assist with the review of engineering drawings and design information, identifying discrepancies and supporting the resolution of technical queries.
  • Work closely with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are properly coordinated.
  • Support senior engineers in assessing design changes and understanding their impact on engineering requirements and project delivery.
  • Assist with responding to technical queries from clients, contractors and project teams, escalating complex issues to senior engineers where required.
  • Support site inspections, surveys and construction activities, helping to verify that works are being completed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure engineering work is completed in accordance with nuclear safety requirements, quality procedures, project standards and applicable legislation.
  • Maintain accurate project records and contribute to the preparation of technical and project documentation.
  • Develop technical knowledge and professional experience through mentoring, training and on-the-job learning.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve engineering processes, documentation and constructability.
