Job Description

Houlton School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA2) to join our Inclusion Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a supportive and ambitious school committed to delivering a world-class educational experience for every pupil. As a TA2, you will work alongside skilled teachers and associate staff to inspire, motivate and challenge students—particularly those with SEND—helping them to make excellent academic and personal progress. Desired Criteria

  • Training in child protection, safeguarding and first aid
  • Positive handling
  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant qualification in working with children
  • Experience of working in an education setting
  • Experience working with Phonics and/ or the Read, Write Inc Fresh Start Programme or willingness to train
  • Experience of working with young people in a relevant professional environment (education, youth, health, social work)
  • Working knowledge of relevant policies / procedures / codes of practice / legislation including Data Protection and Child Protection
  • A good working knowledge of computer software packages including Microsoft Work, Excel and Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies

Essential Criteria

  • Maths and English GCSE 4 (c) or above
  • Experience of providing individual support to children / young people
  • Experience of working on own initiative and making decisions
  • Evidence of understanding young peoples emotional and educational needs
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and issues appropriately
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to take responsibility and work with autonomy within set boundaries
  • To establish good working relationships at all levels - Students, teachers, senior management, board of trustees etc.
