Job Opportunity: Mechanical Technician / Trailer Builder (Full Time)

Houghton Parkhouse Ltd, a specialist in the design and manufacture of high-spec livestock transporters, is looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician to join our production team.

This role is focused on new builds and bespoke manufacturing, not general servicing. You will be involved in assembling complete livestock transporters and trailer systems from the ground up.

We are looking for someone practical, hands-on, and interested in mechanical systems, hydraulics, and building equipment properly from first principles.

The Role:

  • Build and assemble new livestock trailers and containers from chassis stage through to completion
  • Fit axles, braking systems, and pipework on O2 and O4 trailers
  • Install and set up hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, and control systems
  • Assemble and set up pulley and lifting deck systems within livestock containers
  • Carry out hydraulic testing, pressure testing, and commissioning
  • Assist with occasional maintenance of livestock containers (hydraulic oil changes, rope replacement, system checks)
  • Support upkeep of factory equipment (forklifts, tugs, etc.) where required
  • Work closely with fabrication and production teams to deliver a finished, working product

This is a build-focused role, suited to someone who enjoys creating and assembling machinery rather than just maintaining it.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical background (vehicle, plant, agricultural, or similar)
  • Interest in hydraulics and mechanical systems
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to a high standard
  • Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude

Training Development:

  • Opportunity to attend relevant training courses (e.g. WABCO trailer systems, if required)
  • Ongoing in-house training on hydraulic and specialist livestock systems

Benefits:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 4:45pm
  • 2 × 10-minute paid breaks + 45-minute unpaid lunch
  • Overtime available (Monday–Saturday) with bonus opportunities
  • 30 days paid holiday per year
  • Company pension scheme
  • PPE, uniform, and boots provided
  • On-site parking and canteen facilities

Pay:

  • Competitive, based on experience and level of responsibility
