Hough Green Garage is a market leader in the provision of 24-hour Breakdown & Recovery Services, having been established for over 40 years. We operate 24-hour 365 days a year operation for Local Authorities, Blue Light Emergency Services and Motoring Organisations as well as private companies on a National basis.

Due to an increase in work volumes and the commencement of new contracts, we are looking to recruit additional Class 2 vehicle Recovery Drivers. This is a varied and fast-paced role that requires drivers to first and foremost have a “can do” attitude who are able to thrive under pressure and work on their own initiative, developing a dynamic and adaptive approach to all manner of recovery scenarios and helping us to deliver a fast, efficient and professional service to our customers.

Successful candidates will be required to attend Breakdowns & Accidents working on motorways and main roads throughout our operational area. Hough Green Garage operates a modern fleet of over 200 vehicles ensuring our vehicles and staff can deal with any eventuality.

Full IVR accredited training is provided, and career progression is available to all staff enabling them to add additional skills and even licence qualifications during the course of their employment. Based at our Telford Depot TF3 3BN, you will be required to work a 4 on 2 off shift pattern, 12-hour shifts. We have both day and night shifts available. Day shift does have on-call requirements which will be discussed at interview.

The hourly rate for this role is up to £15.00ph (dependent on shift and experience), plus callout & overtime. Alternative shifts may be considered, and this will be discussed at interview.

The person:

  • Full valid UK driving Licence
  • Proven experience and qualifications as a 7.5ton/ Class 2 driver (vehicle recovery experience is a distinct advantage but not essential)
  • A minimum of a Category C1 Driving Licence, along with DCPC and a Digital Drivers Card
  • Thrives under pressure
  • Ability to be flexible with shifts
  • Excellent communication skills being able to speak face-to-face with our customers, sometimes in stressful circumstances
  • Desire to assist our customers by going the extra mile, keen eye for detail
  • Clean past record being able to pass police vetting
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the local area
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • The ability and motivation to work on your own initiative being able to resolve challenging situations

The Role:

  • Daily checks / walk arounds at the start of every shift
  • Weekly vehicle inventory checks
  • General housekeeping on our vehicles and depots/yards
  • Ensure safe removal / delivery of all customer vehicles
  • Complete job requirements on company issued PDA’S
  • Assisting office staff with moving cars in/out of the yard when required

Employment is subject to the provision of proof of eligibility to work in the UK. Please note that Hough Green Garage Ltd are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 due to contracts held with Local Police Authorities. Applicants are required to consent to Police Force Vetting. Failure to gain Police Force vetting may result in any offers of employment rejected or termination of employment at any time.
