Hough Green Garage is a market leader in the provision of 24-hour Breakdown & Recovery Services, having been established for over 40 years. We operate a 24‑hour, 365 days a year operation for Local Authorities, Blue Light Emergency Services and Motoring Organisations as well as private companies on a National basis.
Role Summary
Due to an increase in work volumes and the commencement of new contracts, we are looking to recruit additional Class 2 vehicle Recovery Drivers. This is a varied and fast‑paced role that requires drivers to first and foremost have a “can‑do” attitude, thrive under pressure, work on their own initiative and develop a dynamic and adaptive approach to all manner of recovery scenarios to deliver a fast, efficient and professional service.
Responsibilities
- Attend Breakdowns & Accidents on motorways and main roads throughout our operational area.
- Daily checks / walk‑arounds at the start of every shift.
- Weekly vehicle inventory checks.
- General housekeeping on our vehicles and depots/yards.
- Ensure safe removal/delivery of all customer vehicles.
- Complete job requirements on company‑issued PDAs.
- Assisting office staff with moving cars in/out of the yard when required.
- Work a 4 on‑2 off shift pattern, 12‑hour shifts with both day and night shifts available.
- Day shift on‑call requirements will be discussed at interview.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Full valid UK driving licence.
- Proven experience and qualifications as a 7.5‑ton / Class 2 driver (vehicle recovery experience is a distinct advantage but not essential).
- Minimum of a Category C1 driving licence, along with a DCPC and a Digital Drivers Card.
- Thrives under pressure and is flexible with shifts.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to speak face‑to‑face with customers, often in stressful circumstances.
- Desire to assist customers by going the extra mile with a keen eye for detail.
- Clean past record and ability to pass police vetting.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the local area.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Ability and motivation to work on own initiative, resolving challenging situations.
