Position Overview We’re looking for a detail‑driven Payroll Specialist to manage a portfolio of customer payrolls, ensuring accurate, timely processing in line with bureau standards and SLAs. This role suits someone who delivers excellent service, builds strong customer relationships, and stays up to date with payroll legislation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process end‑to‑end payroll for a set portfolio of customers.
  • Ensure accurate, timely payroll delivery in line with bureau metrics and SLAs.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations (FPS, EPS, tax balances).
  • Resolve HMRC queries and manage payment disputes.
  • Handle rollbacks, earlier year updates, and RTI resubmissions.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date customer payroll procedures and timetables.
  • Respond to customer queries and elevate issues when needed.
  • Provide statutory information when required.
  • Support team members during absences or holiday cover.
  • Communicate relevant payroll updates, legislative changes, and surveys (e.g., NPS).
  • Stay current with payroll legislation and internal training.

Preferred Experience And/or Qualifications:

  • Experience in payroll processing, ideally managing your own portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of UK statutory payroll legislation.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confident in resolving payroll, RTI, and HMRC queries.
  • Able to build strong customer relationships and deliver high‑quality service.
  • Strong communication skills (email + phone).
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable escalating issues when needed.
  • Team player willing to support colleagues during busy periods or absences.
