About the Company
HotHouse Therapeutics is a first mover company revolutionising natural product drug discovery. We discover the biosynthetic tools which plants have evolved to synthesise bioactive chemicals and then redeploy them to synthesise new-to-nature small molecule drugs. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing and ambitious team as a natural product biologist and work in a completely new and emerging area of science and drug discovery. The ideal candidate will have experience working at the interface of biology and chemistry in a multi-disciplinary environment. They will work with other laboratory-based scientists and informaticians, and be responsible for driving projects forward.
Responsibilities
- Plant tissue culture
- Cloning and transformation in bacterial systems
- Reconstituting and manipulating biosynthetic pathways in heterologous systems
- Extracting and analysing natural products from plant material
- Analysing LC-MS based results to validate and improve pathway efficiencies
- Collaborating with the wider scientific team to deliver projects
Essential
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field, or 3+ years experience in a directly comparable field of R&D
- Experience in tissue culture techniques (ideally plant TC, but specific training available)
- Experience using LC-MS based systems and interpreting results
- Experience with molecular biology techniques
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and develop ideas
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Desirable
- Use of NMR for structure and purity analysis
- Familiarity with natural product chemistry
- Experience using transient plant expression systems
